Henry Chalfant, born January 2, 1940, in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, is an American photographer and filmmaker known for his work on graffiti, breakdancing, and hip-hop culture. After studying at Stanford University, he moved to New York in 1973, where he became interested in graffiti. He developed a photographic technique that allowed him to document the entirety of trains covered in artwork. Co-author of the books "Subway Art" (1984) and "Spray Can Art" (1987), he also co-produced the documentary "Style Wars," an essential reference on graffiti and hip-hop culture.
