ARTIST
RAIONE
Jorge Hora, better known as Rai, is a key figure in Liège's graffiti scene and a pillar of Liège's hip-hop culture. He discovered street art at a very young age and quickly established himself as a central player in this burgeoning scene.
In the 90s, he joined the JNC collective, an emblematic group of graffiti artists who largely contributed to the spread of graffiti and street art in Belgium.
Rai draws his inspiration from the silences of the city, from forgotten walls and the invisible stories they hold. His murals are gestures of remembrance, attempts to make visible what is no longer so, to restore dignity to marginalized places and the communities that inhabit them. Influenced by the New York, Parisian, and German graffiti movements of the 1980s and 90s, he adopted lettering early on as a language of resistance. But for him, letters are not merely cries of revolt: they become identities in the making, calls to exist.
